Water Safety
Water damage is one of the most common causes of damage to homes and are inconvenient for household members and family life. Special attention needs to be paid to wet rooms such as the kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom, but we also encourage people to have their utilities frame checked regularly. If in doubt, contact a professional. Generally, homeowner insurance covers damage that occurs to the property itself.
Some helpful tips indoors
Keep an eye out for abnormal moisture, changed texture (e.g. swelling) in paint, parquet or masonry.
Have constant running in the toilet fixed, it will cause moisture in the pipes over time.
Watch for moisture in windows and by front doors.
Water sensors can be a good preventative measure and can be connected to a security system.
Clean floor drains regularly so they don't get clogged, as well as other indoor drains.
Find out where to turn off the hot and cold water inlets. Label the inlets.
Some helpful tips outdoors
Clean drains and gutters. Leaves and sand can clog drains.
In general, water should drain away from your house or have a clear path away from it. Correct the water run-off slope if the paved areas have started to sink, install drains at basement stairs. The water needs to have a clear path.
Monitor the condition of windows, doors and cladding. It is good to know the maintenance and construction history of the property.
Response to water leaks
Shut off the water inlet immediately.
Be especially careful if the water is very hot.
If the situation is difficult to deal with or there is a potential danger, call 112.
Contact the emergency hotline to get immediate help from a specialist.
Report the damage as soon as possible.
