Fire safety for businesses

Fire safety design of a building must comply with the type of activities carried out within it. This is essential to ensure the safety of staff and customers. Vörður places strong emphasis on commercial fire safety, which is part of our preventive inspections. Among other things, we check the following:

  • Is the fire alarm system operational in the building?

  • Are the correct fire extinguishers in place?

  • Has the firefighting equipment been inspected within the past 12 months?

  • Are fire doors between fire compartments closed or held open by magnetic devices?

  • Are escape routes in order, with emergency lights indicating the way?

  • Are warning systems connected to the control center?

  • Is regular self-inspection of fire safety being carried out?

  • Are the rules for hot work permits followed if hot work is planned?

Useful materials on fire safety, including checklists for self-inspection and guidance on hot work, can be found on the website of the Icelandic Fire Protection Association.
