Know the signs: Open educational meeting October 6th
Vörður and Bjarkarhlíð are hosting an open educational seminar on the manifestations of intimate partner violence and how workplaces can recognize the signs, respond appropriately, and support survivors.
The seminar will be held on Tuesday, 6 October at 09:00 at Arion Bank, Borgartún 19.
The workplace can make all the difference
The workplace can be a turning point for an individual experiencing intimate partner violence. It is often one of the few places where a survivor can escape the perpetrator's control, find breathing room, and maintain a safe connection to society. The right response from managers and colleagues can therefore have a profound impact.
The seminar is part of the awareness campaign "Know the Signs – Respond," taking place alongside the launch of support leave, a new insurance benefit offered by Vörður. The campaign focuses on how workplaces can support employees who have experienced intimate partner violence.
Know the signs and learn how to respond
At the seminar, Jenný Kristín Valberg, team leader at Bjarkarhlíð, will deliver a presentation covering the various forms of intimate partner violence and the signs that may appear in employees' behaviour, wellbeing, and circumstances. She will also provide attendees with practical guidance on how to approach an individual with sensitivity, respond to disclosures of violence, and refer them to appropriate support. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the workplace as a safe space and how clear, supportive responses can make a real difference for survivors. Also presenting at the seminar is Hildur Jóna, product manager at Vörður, who will introduce support leave — a new insurance benefit designed to make it easier for employers to support staff in such situations.
The seminar is highly relevant for managers, human resources professionals, and anyone who cares about the safety and wellbeing of their colleagues.
We look forward to seeing you.
