New insurance coverage for people struggling with infertility
Vörður tryggingar has added fertility benefit to its standard health insurance policies at no additional cost to customers. This is the first time in Iceland that insurance coverage addresses this issue, which is more common than many realize, with an estimated one in six people experiencing infertility. Fertility benefit is intended to support individuals who are diagnosed with infertility and need to undergo fertility treatment.
The new coverage is an add-on to standard health insurance policies rather than a standalone insurance product. With this change, Vörður aims to respond to the growing needs of society in relation to fertility challenges, ensuring more people have access to protection.
The coverage includes financial benefits for individuals or couples who experience infertility and require fertility treatment. In addition, it provides access to counselling support if emotional distress or difficult circumstances arise during the process.
Vörður tryggingar is part of Arion Banki, and customers who hold health insurance with Vörður and need fertility coverage may be eligible for a loan from Arion Banki on preferential terms and without credit assessment.
This change is part of Vörður’s ongoing journey to develop insurance products that better reflect people’s real needs, ensuring more individuals can benefit from protection. In recent months, Vörður has introduced several new additions to its insurance offerings, including emergency assistance for victims of violence, now part of its home insurance policies; support leave for victims of violence, now included in employer health insurance; and pregnancy and parental protection as part of the company’s health insurance products.
We are extremely proud of this addition to our existing health insurance offering, as our goal is to be there for people when they need it most. This is especially true when individuals are facing infertility. The aim is to reduce financial stress and create more space for people to focus on what matters most to them.
says Þórdís Lind Leiva, Head of life and health insurance at Vörður.
